Frequently Asked Questions
New to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, or thinking about joining Renegade? Here are answers to the questions we hear most often.
- Do I need any experience to start Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?
No experience is needed. Most people who walk through our doors have never trained a martial art before. Our fundamentals classes are designed for complete beginners, and you will be guided by coaches and training partners every step of the way.
- What should I wear to my first class?
For your first session, comfortable athletic clothing is fine — a t-shirt and shorts or leggings without zips, buttons or pockets. If you keep training you will want a BJJ gi (uniform), and we are happy to point you in the right direction. Just bring a water bottle and train barefoot on the mats.
- How much does membership cost?
Membership pricing depends on how often you would like to train. The best way to get current pricing and find a plan that suits you is to come in for a free trial class and have a chat with our coaches.
- Where is Renegade BJJ located?
We are based in Kensington, in Melbourne's inner west — a short trip from Flemington, North Melbourne, Ascot Vale and Moonee Ponds. Find us on Google Maps too.
- Do you offer classes for kids?
Yes. Our Junior Renegades program runs age-appropriate classes that build coordination, discipline and confidence in a safe, supportive environment. Get in touch to find a class time that suits your child.
- Can I try a class before joining?
Absolutely. We offer a free trial class so you can experience a session, meet the coaches and see if Renegade is the right fit — no pressure and no obligation. Reach out to book your free class.
